COMMUNITY ORGANIZING AND SPECIAL INITIATIVES

The Community Organizing team offers FREE programming for our older community members and caregivers to reflect on family and community needs and self determine how to respond to them. Each program is meant to build supportive relationships among participants to reimagine our world, implement new or remixed ideas, and practice collaboration.

BX FARM TO TABLE SERIES

Tune in every month to learn and reconnect with delicious ways to use Bronx grown, in season produce. Guest chefs and makers will create culturally relevant, healthy meals and other nourishing goods (e.g. shea butter and home made medicines) live with our community. Open to all DreamYard Community Members. Sessions occur Monthly on Fridays from 5:30 – 7:00 pm.

PARENT ARTS LAB (PAL)

Parents and caregivers are invited to join the COSI department for monthly art classes featuring art forms like photography, dance, pottery, and more. The Parent Arts Labs (PAL) will encourage free play after the tutorial and discussions around participants’ goals, family and community concerns, and ideas for manifesting changes in their lives, families, and communities. PAL will convene in the Art Center and on Zoom. Materials and snacks provided in person! 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. For any parents or family members of school aged students



BX POWER! TEACH-IN SERIES

New Dates Coming Soon!

This 4 part series invites our entire community to learn and dialogue about the systems we live and participate in, their origin stories, their impact on our quality of life, and how we might engage them, revise them, or dismantle them. Each workshop will encourage you to continue to demystify these systems through curiosity, research, and working with other community members. Sessions occur Quarterly on Wednesdays from 6:00 – 7:00 pm.

DY and Public Works Storytelling and Activism

Feb. 8, 15, and March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
6:30 – 8:30 p.m. via Zoom (link will be emailed)

Stories have the power to change hearts and minds; we are all full of stories. In this class, we will practice the art of true, personal storytelling as a tool to support activism work. We will craft stories about our experiences, and explore the use of storytelling to create change in our lives, communities, and world. This class lives at the intersection of performance and social justice.
