Our collaborative partnership model builds on the knowledge and skills of teachers and their classroom communities. Using the arts as a dynamic tool to examine and facilitate curriculum, teachers, staff, and students leverage imagination and critical thinking for individual and collective transformation.
In School Programs place professional artist-educators in over 200 residencies at more than 45 Bronx public schools each year, combining standards-based arts instruction with social justice pedagogy via two different year-long program models:
A 30 week collaboration between a classroom teacher and a Teaching Artist to integrate social justice art education into the core curriculum.
A DreamYard Teaching Artist leads students through an in-depth, 30 week exploration of the art form through a social justice lens.
Explore a variety of art techniques to produce innovative, original work that activates and celebrates.
Speak back to the world! Explore poetic forms and performance techniques. Compete in the Poetry Slam for a chance to be crowned BronxWrites Champions.
Explore movement as expression while developing collaboration and performance skills.
Through the exploration of acting and production techniques, create unique pieces of theatre to open dialogue and transform community.
Explore cultural and personal history through global beats! Record your lyrics or make your mark using drums, percussion instruments, or the latest audio technology.
Design, construct and activate! Learn garment design, construction and style; create pieces that showcase your unique identity and highlight your cultural heritage.
