Parent Arts Lab: Unhurt & Rest – Part 1

BIO: Kay Bell is an Educator, Storyteller and Music Enthusiast. For her, writing works as a birthing floor for healing, invention, and reimagination— where the poetic voice is responsible for both blessing and bruising the inquiring reader. Currently, she works as an Academic Advisor and Adjunct Professor at the City College of New York and can be found nurturing her plants and her two sons, in the heart of the South Bronx.

Unhurt & Rest is a transformative poetry workshop series that invites participants to explore the profound connection between poetry and personal healing. In the three-part series, participants will embark on a journey of self-discovery through storytelling, emotional expression, and catharsis utilizing the art of poetry. Facilitated by the 2023-2025 Bronx Poet Laureate, Kay Bell, the workshops are designed to provide a safe and nurturing space for participants to express their innermost thoughts through interactive discussions, writing exercises and group sharing. Additional features of the workshop series will include exploring the history and therapeutic benefits of poetry, and learning how it has been used as a means of self-reflection, emotional release and resilience.

Workshop 1 (Oct 17): Unveiling the Power of Storytelling.

In this introductory session, participants will delve into the power of storytelling as a tool for healing. They will be guided on a journey to unveil their personal narratives and memories, helping them tap into their unique experiences and emotions. Some features of this workshop will include learning the different categories of storytelling, developing voice, and understanding how poetry and storytelling in collaboration can form the birthing ground of self-reflection, emotional release, and resilience.
