Supporting Recovery Efforts in Puerto Rico

The DreamYard community has been looking for effective ways to support the people of Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.  Much of the aide that is being sent is not getting to those who need it most because of damage to critical infrastructure and political corruption.  The stories of storage containers remaining unopened, lack of water, gas shortages, electrical outages, and government misappropriation are infuriating. The devastation is overwhelming.

We found several large agencies that seem like they are able to provide the most direct support where help is needed most:

One America Appeal

United for Puerto Rico

International Medical Corps

Hispanic Federation

We also believe that one of the best things to do in terms of monetary donations is to give to community organizations with direct connections to and in Puerto Rico. These organizations are allocating funds directly to the community for restoration efforts:

Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute Caribbean Relief Fund on YouCaring

Casa Pueblo  (donate at bottom of page)

Commedores Sociales

With no clear end in sight, we hope that our friends and community members can support recovery efforts however they are able.
