DreamYard Art Center Ribbon Cutting

The DY Art Center ribbon cutting ceremony on September 29th drew approximately 100 friends, supporters, artists, students, and political representatives. DreamYard and Bronx Pro Real Estate Management celebrated the official opening of the 1085 Washington Avenue building, home to the DreamYard Art Center and a 90-unit affordable housing development, featuring a roof top garden certified as a natural habitat and solar technology for heat and light.

DreamYard poetry slam students were visited by a delegation from Scotland including First Minister Jack McConnell. The delegation was on a fact finding mission to learn how the arts could be used to promote positive youth development.

For the Moment | Giorgio Armani in the Bronx

In February 2009, Giorgio Armani and Caroline Kennedy came for a special visit to the DreamYard Art Center. Mr. Armani donated $1 million to the Fund for Public Schools and part of this donation will be allocated to programming at the Art Center. We extend our deepest gratitude to Mr. Armani for his inspiring generosity and to the Fund for Public Schools for their confidence in our work. Mayor Michael Bloomberg praised Mr. Armani for this incredible gift: “Giorgio Armani doesn’t just believe in New York’s bright future…, he’s committed to making it a reality. Giorgio’s donation will help pay for [programs] at the DreamYard Art Center...an exciting new cultural hub.... This gift is going to make a big difference in the lives of so many of our children.”
