Poetry Slam

Lehman College - Lovinger Theater - 10 Am - 1 PM
Hear students perform their poetry. The Bronx Writes Poetry Slam is implemented in collaboration with Public School Region #1. The project involves placing poets at 17 public middle and elementary schools for 10 week residencies. The poetry slam combines the writing of original poetry, the art of performance and the use of video conferencing technology to promote standards based literacy, communication and the use of technology.

DreamYard's ACTION (Arts Community Teams In Our Neighborhood) Project is the organization's most recent initiative in out of school programming. Started in summer 2004, it is a four-year arts and community-building program composed of a Lehman based summer intensive and year-round Saturday program for graduating 8th graders. The mission of the ACTION Project is to use the arts to develop young people as effective social leaders and active civic participants in their communities.

DreamYard Poetry Festival
March 14
Scholastic Theater at 6:30 pm
The DreamYard Poetry Festival at Scholastic will take place on March 14th. Students from several DreamYard schools including the ACTION Project and DreamYard Preparatory School will gather to celebrate poetry created in their curriculum. Students from the 4th through 12th grades will present original poems in an evening that they will remember for a lifetime. The Scholastic Theater can be found at 557 Broadway.
